World Water Week, Stockholm, August 2006:
A Side Event entitled “From groundwater as private property to groundwater as a public good: Impact of a demand based groundwater management project” was organized by FAO, APFaMGS and WWI at the World Water Week in Stockholm, August, 2006.
During this event, a presentation was made on the Andhra Pradesh Farmer Managed Groundwater Systems Project. Dr Daniel Zimmer, World Water Council, launched the publication “Global Perspectives on IWRM: A Resource Kit” by Vasudha Pangare, Ganesh Pangare, Viraj Shah, B R Neupane, P S Rao, published by Academic Foundation, FAO, UNESCO and World Water Institute.
Dr Daniel Zimmer, Dr Barbara von Koppen, Dr Ujjwal Pradhan, Dr P S Rao, Dr Govardhan Das, Mrs Vasudha Pangare spoke on the occasion. Mr Ganesh Pangare coordinated the proceedings.
Fourth World Water Forum, Mexico, March 2006
WWI in collaboration with CPWC and ISET organized a side event entitled “Capacity building and social learning to manage risks”. The session focused on the scope, availability and need for training materials and tools to deal with uncertainty and increasing water related risks.
The session was chaired by Prof. dr. Richard Meganck, UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. Marcus Moench, Ganesh Pangare, David Purkey, Jetse Heun and Dr Govardhan Das spoke at the event.
Facilitating Irrigation Sector Reforms in Chhattisgarh
WWI signed an agreement with ADB to facilitate irrigation sector reforms in the state of Chhattisgarh in India. Under this agreement, WWI undertook the following activities
i. exposed senior water resource department officials and Government of Chhattisgarh policy makers and current WUA leaders to irrigation reform and institutional strengthening efforts;
ii. provided a forum for dialogue to generate options to improve the policy and institutional framework for irrigation and water resources; and
iii. supported the generation of relevant policy documents.
WWI also organized a national workshop on PIM in Chhattisgarh in May 2004.
World Water Day, 22nd March 2005
A “Policy Dialogue Meeting on Water Conflicts in India” was organized by WWI on behalf of the Forum for Policy Dialogue on Water Conflicts in India. The event was sponsored by WWF – International Project on “Dialogue on Water, Food and Environment”.
