Facilitating irrigation sector reforms in Chhattisgarh

Following the division of Madhya Pradesh state in 2000, the newly formed state of Chhattisgarh inherited about 1000 Water User Associations, and continued to use the Madhya Pradesh PIM Act.  Over the past three years, experience with PIM in the state has demonstrated the need to reform this Act specifically to address the unique conditions in the State.

World Water Institute has signed an agreement with Asian Development Bank to facilitate irrigation sector reforms in the state of Chhattisgarh in India.

WWI will

  1. expose senior water resource department officials and Government of     Chhattisgarh policy makers and current WUA leaders to irrigation reform and institutional strengthening efforts;

  2. provide a forum for dialogue to generate options to improve the policy and institutional framework for irrigation and water resources; and

  3. support the generation of relevant policy documents.
